Two of my favorite books, Earth Mother Herbal and Earth Mother Magic, were both published by Fair Winds Press.
Earth Mother Herbal; Remedies, Recipes, Lotions and Potions from Mother Nature's Healing Plants by Shatoiya De La Tour. Paperback, 221 pages, published by Fair Winds Press, 2002.
Chapters include: Earth Mother's Path, Earth Mother's Pantry, Making Earth Mother Medicines, Earth Mother's Kitchen, Earth Mother's Garden, and Earth Mother's Treasure of 40 herbs. This is a good basic book for anyone interested in basic herbalism and herbal folklore.
Earth Mother Magic; Ancient Spells for Modern Belles by Judika Illes. Paperback, 220 pages, published by Fair Winds Press, 2001.
This book is divided into three sections: Magic 101, Other Powers; Your Magic Allies and Spells. From the back cover: "drawing upon the vast lore of traditional earth knowledge, combined with a working practitioner's modern, functional advice, Earth Mother Magic shows you how to draw everything, from more money to that old boyfriend, back into your life." The spells included in this book have a heavy emphasis on Hoodoo and Wiccan traditions.
Both books include a resource section, recommended reading list and comprehensive index. Judika Illes has gone on to write a series of huge, encyclopedia books for Thorsons Element including The Element Encyclopedia of Witchcraft and The Element Encyclopedia of 5,000 Spells.
