Onion Herb Bread

Onion Herb Bread

My latest recipe was published to the Suite101 website on May 21st. The article, Onion Herb Bread; Homemade Bread Flavored with Herbs, Poppy Seeds and Onions, includes a delicious recipe for creating a subtly sweet, yet hearty loaf of delicious bread.

Various onions can be used when creating this loaf of bread. White onion, red onion or sweet valaida onions can all be used. I used red onion when I tested this recipe last week, but any variety of onion can be used.

I LOVE freshly baked bread. I practically make myself ill anytime I'm baking bread - I end up eating so much after taking it out of the oven. My husband really liked this loaf of bread, but our 12 year old daughter thought it was a bit too sweet. MORE FOR ME!!!!

The leftover bread, if you have any, can be used the next day to make delicious panini sandwiches. Take two slices of the bread, spread a bit of olive oil on one side, place one slice - oil side down on your panini machine. Top the slice with a slice of cheese, a few slices of honey ham and another slice of cheese. Top with the other slice of bread, oil side up and close the lid to your panini machine. It only takes a minute or two to cook the sandwich - DELICIOUS!!!

Now I'm hungry - and I don't have any bread left - BOO-HOO!!

Stir Fry BBQ Shrimp (LINK)

Ingredients for Curry Powder

I just published my latest article; Stir Fry BBQ Shrimp, to the Suite101 website.

The article details how to create a custom seasoning blend which incorporates a variety of spices. The spice blend is then used to make a creamy, sweet and spicy BBQ shrimp dish.

The spice blend includes cumin, coriander, turmeric, paprika, garlic and chili powder. It has a nice and spicy taste with a very subtle amount of heat. Perfect for anyone that doesn't like food that is overly spicy.

The seasoning blend can also be used to season other dishes such as fish, pork and chicken. The seasoning blend, which is similar to a curry powder, would even taste great added to a meat-free curry with lots of vegetables - perfect if you're a vegetarian.

How to Spice Up Veggies

Add Some Spice to Your Food
Steaming, baking, grilling, or even stir frying vegetables in a small amount of oil, are all healthy ways to prepare them. As long as the vegetables aren't loaded in heavy sauces or smothered in gravies, they can be a healthy and low calorie addition to every meal.

Creating your own herb and spice blends allows you to control the amount of salt that is added. The majority of commercially produced spice blends that are found in grocery stores list salt as one of their main ingredients.

The article How to Spice Up Veggies, includes recipes on how to create lemon pepper spice blend, red pepper and garlic spice blend, garlic with chives and onion spice blend and no-salt spice blend.

The complete article was first published to the e-How website on 4/29/08.
